I’m a list maker. I love the sense of accomplishment I feel from checking something off of my list. Sometimes I even do things that aren’t on my list, then I write them in just so I can check them off! C’mon, you know you do it too!
The weekends are always my big “to-do” list days. Since I’m off work, I pile things on my list, usually way more than I can actually do in a day. What can I say…? I’m ambitious (or oblivious… I’m not sure which).
So I had ad lot of errands this particular Saturday – grocery store, hardware store, running by work to take care of a few things, a long overdue lunch with a friend and a whole lot more.
The day was full!
As I was getting ready to tackle my list, my son said “Hey mom, I thought maybe we could hang out today.” “Hanging out,” I thought to myself, was not on my list. I started to think of how to rearrange all of the things I had planned to do that day, and how it if I didn’t do them I would have to do them another day, which meant other things wouldn’t get done. Thankfully, I came to my senses and realized it was becoming a rare occasion for my son to want to spend time with me. We had a sweet time, and ended up doing some of those errands together anyway.
Maybe you woke up today with a long to-do list. When distractions or interruptions come your way, try pausing for a moment to see if God is unwrapping a divine appointment for you.
It could be disguised as ordinary circumstances, but as you peel back the layers, you will no doubt experience that God is in every moment, every experience, and every interruption.
