Struggling to Make God First

Do you ever have days when you’re so busy, you barely have time to breathe, much less spend time with God?

I’ve been encouraged lately to spend more time in my Bible, reading and studying the Scriptures. I have to admit: doing this consistently has always been a struggle, but since I’ve been doing it, it’s made a huge impact on my life!

I’ve been amazed at how God‘s Word speaks to me and teaches me something I can apply to things going on in my life. I heard it said recently that the more you read it, the more you want to read it. I wasn’t sure I believed that, but once I started I found it to be true.

Reading God’s word every day has helped me…

  • in my relationships
  • with how I react to things
  • in my prayer life
  • with my discernment in situations

It just helps me to have a better day all the around. In fact, it helps me to get more things done. Yes, taking time out of your day to study the Bible makes you more productive! It says in Proverbs “For through Me your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.”

That means when we apply the words of the Bible to our lives, our days will be more profitable – we’ll get more done!

I want to encourage you today to grab your Bible and take 10 minutes. If you don’t have one, there are online Bibles or apps for your phone. Before you start reading, ask God to show you what He would have you learn from His Word. Then write down a verse or two. Look up the words you don’t understand. If it’s really hard to follow, you can Google phrases in the verse and find commentary that will help you.

My prayer is that those ten minutes will not only lift you up and encourage you, but that it will spur you on to spend more and more time with God.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105
